Grouting and Chocking

Precision equipment alignment and vibration-resistant foundations for marine propulsion and heavy industrial machinery.

Precision Foundations for Critical Equipment

Heavy rotating equipment requires precise alignment and solid foundations to operate efficiently and avoid premature wear. Traditional cement grouts shrink during curing, lose bond over time, and cannot absorb the vibration and thermal cycling that marine and industrial equipment endures.

Belzona 7111 is a 100% solids epoxy chocking and grouting compound engineered for demanding environments. It pours easily into irregular spaces, self-levels to provide full contact, and cures to a high-strength foundation that resists pressure, impact, and vibration.

Used extensively in marine drydocks throughout the Pacific Northwest for ship propulsion systems, stern tube bearings, and auxiliary machinery — as well as industrial facilities for pumps, compressors, and generators.

Belzona 7111

A cost-effective, 2-part, 100% solids chocking and grouting material designed to endure the physical and thermal shock common to marine environments. Pourable and specially formulated to spread evenly across irregular surfaces.

  • Pressure, impact, and vibration resistant
  • Provides precise equipment alignment
  • Dampens machine noise and vibration
  • Prevents loosening of threaded bolts
  • High load-bearing capacity
  • No heat or special tools required

Why Cement Grouts Fail

  • Shrinks during curing — loses contact
  • Cracks under vibration and thermal cycling
  • Absorbs oil and water — weakens bond
  • Equipment shifts out of alignment
  • Bolts loosen — requires constant retorquing

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between chocking and grouting?

Chocking fills the gap between equipment and its foundation to provide alignment and load transfer. Grouting fills larger voids and provides a continuous foundation. Belzona 7111 is formulated for both applications.

How long does Belzona 7111 take to cure?

Cure time depends on temperature. At 20°C (68°F), the material is set in approximately 24 hours and fully cured in 7 days. Higher temperatures accelerate curing.

Can Belzona 7111 be used underwater?

No. Belzona 7111 is designed for above-water applications. For underwater chocking or repair, contact us to discuss alternatives like Belzona 1161 or other underwater-cure products.

What load-bearing capacity does it provide?

Belzona 7111 has a compressive strength exceeding 30,000 psi (213 MPa), suitable for the heaviest marine propulsion systems and industrial equipment.

Does epoxy chocking require special surface prep?

Yes. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, and loose material. Typically this means degreasing, grit blasting or grinding, and applying Belzona conditioner to ensure proper adhesion.

Is Belzona 7111 approved by classification societies?

Yes. Belzona products are recognized by major classification societies including ABS, Lloyd's Register, and Bureau Veritas for marine applications.

Can I remove equipment after chocking with Belzona?

Yes. Equipment can be removed by unbolting and lifting. The cured Belzona can be chipped away from the foundation if needed, though it is easier to remove than cement grout.

Do you provide on-site support for chocking projects?

Yes. We provide product training, application guidance, and can assist with first-time applications at drydocks and industrial facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
