Oil and Gas Repair and Protection

Cold-applied repair composites for refineries, pipelines, and upstream equipment. Eliminate hot work permits and extend equipment life.

The Challenge

Oil and gas facilities face relentless corrosion, erosion, and chemical attack. Traditional repairs require hot work permits, confined space entry, and costly shutdowns. Equipment failure means lost production, environmental risk, and safety hazards.

Pacific Northwest refineries and upstream operations deal with additional challenges from coastal moisture, temperature swings, and remote locations that make rapid response difficult.

Whether you operate a refinery in Washington, a pipeline in Alaska, or production equipment in remote locations, unplanned downtime is not an option.

The Belzona Solution

Belzona cold-applied composites and coatings eliminate hot work entirely. Repair corroded pipes, tanks, and vessels in place without welding, cutting, or sparks. Many repairs can be completed while equipment remains in service.

For refineries, Belzona offers heat exchanger protection, pump rebuilding, and tank lining solutions. For pipelines, our ISO 24817-certified SuperWrap II system provides structural reinforcement without hot work.

Belzona Technology Northwest provides product selection and technical support for oil and gas facilities throughout Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Northern Idaho.

Problems We Solve

Common failure modes that threaten production, safety, and environmental compliance — and more:

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)

Hidden corrosion under pipe and vessel insulation leads to catastrophic failures. Belzona coatings protect against CUI without removing all insulation.

Heat Exchanger Degradation

Tube sheets, channels, and shells corrode in high-temperature service. Belzona coatings protect internals and extend turnaround intervals.

Tank Floor and Shell Corrosion

Storage tanks corrode from the inside out. Belzona linings protect tank floors and shells against crude, produced water, and chemicals.

Pump Erosion and Cavitation

Pumps wear from abrasive fluids and cavitation damage. Belzona composites rebuild worn components to OEM specifications.

Pipe and Flange Leaks

Corroded pipes and damaged flanges leak product. Belzona repairs seal leaks and reinforce weakened areas without hot work.

Secondary Containment Failures

Concrete containment areas crack and spall. Chemical-resistant coatings protect against hydrocarbon and chemical spills.

Belzona vs. Conventional Coatings

Conventional epoxy coatings provide basic protection but fail under demanding refinery and pipeline conditions. Belzona composites deliver superior adhesion, abrasion resistance, and corrosion protection.

Case Study

Crude Oil Heat Exchanger Protection

The Challenge

A refinery crude oil heat exchanger operating at temperatures up to 110°C was experiencing rapid corrosion. The separator channels, tube face, and channel shell were all suffering extreme corrosion, decreasing equipment life and risking unplanned shutdowns.

The Solution

The maintenance team selected Belzona 1593, a high-temperature coating designed for permanent immersion conditions up to 160°C. The tubesheet, channel end cover, and channel shell were all protected following Belzona Know-How System Leaflets HEX-1 and HEX-3.

The Results

  • +Complete protection of all heat exchanger internals
  • +Coating rated for continuous immersion at 160°C
  • +Extended equipment life and reduced maintenance cycles
  • +No hot work or specialized welding required

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Belzona repairs be made without hot work permits?

Yes. All Belzona products are cold-applied, meaning no welding, cutting, or sparks. This eliminates the need for hot work permits, confined space ventilation requirements, and fire watch. Repairs can often be completed in operating areas without shutting down adjacent equipment.

What temperature can Belzona products withstand?

Belzona offers products for a range of operating temperatures. Standard repair composites handle temperatures up to 176°F (80°C) wet service. High-temperature products are designed for service up to 392°F (200°C) dry and 320°F (160°C) immersed. Contact us with your specific operating conditions.

Is SuperWrap II certified for pipeline repair?

Yes. SuperWrap II is certified to ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 for the repair of pipelines and piping systems. It provides structural reinforcement for corroded or damaged pipe without hot work. The system is engineered for each application based on pipe diameter, wall thickness, and operating pressure.

How long do Belzona repairs last?

Properly applied Belzona repairs routinely last 10-20+ years depending on the application and operating conditions. Many heat exchanger coatings and pump rebuilds have been in service for over 15 years. The key is proper surface preparation and following Belzona application procedures.

Do you support remote Alaska locations?

Yes. We support oil and gas operations throughout our territory including remote Alaska locations. We can coordinate product delivery to match your logistics and provide technical support by phone, video, or on-site depending on the project scope.
