Industry: Marine
Solution: Emergency Repair
Location: Seattle, WA
Date: March 2023
Problem:
With drydock time running out, the customer confronted a major obstacle: the interior of a key bearing required rebuilding, but welding was off the table. They needed a precise, non‑welded repair method that could be executed in just a few days—without delaying the vessel’s return to service.
Solution:
The repair team selected Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) as a cold‑applied, non‑welded rebuilding solution. A precision former was fabricated to match the original bearing geometry and coated with a suitable release agent to prevent adhesion. Belzona 1111 was then applied to the prepared substrate, and the former was installed to mold the compound to the correct internal profile. Once cured, the former was removed cleanly, leaving a fully restored bearing surface with accurate alignment and minimal machining required—well within the customer’s remaining drydock window.
